David Hastings teaches marine science, chemistry and environmental studies at Eckerd College and is a marine geochemist and chemical oceanographer. He started this adventure studying chemistry at Princeton University and received his Ph.D. in chemical oceanography from University of Washington.
Dr. Hastings' primary research interest is paleoclimatology, which is the study of past climate change as revealed by ocean sediments. He is also engaged in research efforts to understand the impact of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. He believes that it is important for scientists to actively engage in policy conversations with the public and elected officials.
