The Fish and Wildlife Research Institute (FWRI) is the research arm of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC). FWRI conducts statewide research programs to obtain the data and information that managers of fish, wildlife, and ecosystem resources need to sustain Florida's natural resources. FWRI is organized into five broad, interrelated science sections: Marine Fisheries Research, Freshwater Fisheries Research, Wildlife Research, Ecosystem Assessment and Restoration, and Information Science and Management.
Altogether, nearly 640 staff members – approximately half of them working at the downtown St. Petersburg headquarters and half operating from field laboratories and key inland and coastal locations statewide – make up FWRI.
