Bryan Davis joined FIO, as the Captain of the R/V W. T. Hogarth, in July 2021 leaving his last maritime job as a steersman with American Steamship Company driving the 635′ cargo freighter “American Courage”. For the last two decades, Bryan has been employed as a professional mariner on vessels engaged in the passenger, cargo and towing sectors. Bryan climbed the hawsepipe in the waters of three oceans; all five Great Lakes; seas, gulfs, rivers and bays in North and Central America. He has laid routes and navigated vessels in the notable waters of The Mississippi River, Glacier Bay, the Columbia River and the Panama Canal. In addition to being a domestic master of self-propelled vessels less than 500GRT upon oceans and a master of towing upon oceans, Bryan also holds International STCW endorsements II/1, II/2, II/3, II/4, II/5, VI/1, VI/2, VI/3, VI/4, VI/5, VI/6. Other ratings or qualifications include able seaman unlimited, radar observer unlimited, ECDIS, ARPA and GMDSS operator.
Bryan is PADI Open Water certified and TDI Nitrox certified. In addition to his maritime pursuits, for the last 20 years he has also spent time each winter teaching recreational snow skiing and boarding. He holds three level two certifications from PSIA/AASI.
