Biography

Ana Arellano became a Program Manager for the Florida Institute of Oceanography’s Peerside Program’s. As Peerside’s lead, she is instrumental in the development and implementation of the program. Ana also works with the University of South Florida and her main responsibility a is to create transformational changes at the College of Marine Science (CMS) by recruiting underrepresented (URM) students, postdocs, and staff. In the past, she was part of the leadership team to the University of Exemplary Mentoring (UCEM), a program funded by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. She catalyzes an inclusive environment by providing workshops for personal development and implementing new student and postdoc organizations. Arellano led CMS’ first NSF Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) supplement program in the summer of 2019, and in 2023, she was awarded an NSF REU site that will create an immersive ocean science REU for students with different social, cultural, and academic backgrounds.
