As of August 15, Dr. David Naar has been appointed to serve as the Interim Director of the Florida Institute of Oceanography while continuing his role as Associate Dean and Professor of the University of South Florida’s College of Marine Science.
Dr. Naar has used FIO’s ships for over 35 years and used research vessels from UNOLS for the past 46 years. His extensive experience in seagoing research, coupled with his familiarity with FIO’s resources and mission, made him well-suited to lead FIO, while a permanent director is to be named in the coming weeks. You can learn more about his background and career accomplishments on his FIO bio page, and CV.
FIO is confident his leadership will provide continuity and improvements to FIO. David looks forward to the next FIO Council Meeting and is interested in receiving ideas on how to improve access to research vessels, the Keys Marine Lab, and our educational and outreach programs.
